Autism Awareness Month 2017

aaFB

“Autism impacts the normal development of the brain in the areas of social interaction, communication skills, and cognitive function. Individuals with autism typically have difficulties in verbal and non-verbal communication, social interactions, and leisure or play activities.”

April is Autism Awareness month, and I’m lucky enough to be part of RJ Scott’s blog hop.

This year’s theme is animals.

Though I love most animals, (snakes will forever make me shudder, I’m afraid) my favourites are probably cats. I have three, and they are stubborn, spoilt, stuck up, and also awesome. Despite causing mass destruction in the kitchen at times, they never fail to cheer me or the kids up when we’re feeling down about something.

While panicking about what to write for this blog post, the lovely Rachel Maybury pointed out several articles that describe how cats have had a positive impact on an autistic child’s life. I’d like to share this one from the Autism Speaks website.

As a thank you for checking out my blog today, I’m offering a giveaway of any ebook from my backlist, which you can find here.  Just leave me a comment to enter. Winner to be drawn on May 1st.

My son with autism (and Down syndrome) never paid any attention to our animals until our latest beagle Bella. He laughs and smiles at her. She’s now a certified/registered therapy dog working with children because of her amazing temperament with people of all abilities.

Thanks for taking part in the hop. We use to have a cat but some of my family members are allergic now so we had to find her a new home. Thank you for the link.

  12. I love cats too. But allergies too severe. It would be heart breaking to introduce a cat, have child bond, then find out they are allergic.
